I have been athletic my entire life. I began with dance classes and gymnastics during elementary school. By junior high school I had moved on to volleyball, basketball, and softball. I excelled in each sport throughout my high school career, but decided to focus on volleyball during my junior year of high school. I received a scholarship to a local community college which I played for 2 years. After graduating, I no longer was required to stay in shape. I found myself grabbing the “quickest” thing to eat. I slowly began to add on weight. In 1999, at 20 years old I found myself weighing 160 lbs. And wearing a size 12. I woke up one day with a desire to make a change because I was so miserable with my appearance.

I changed my diet by cutting out simple items such as soda, junk food,                                   and fried foods. These small changes enabled me to lose 20 pounds.                                       But now, I was at 140 pounds and in a rut. I was unable to lose                                       anymore weight. A friend suggested that I use her personal trainer                                       Karen Joseph. I began working with Karen a few days a week for an                                      hour each session. She incorporated weight training along with cardio                                    into a program for me. She also assisted me in putting together a diet                                     that would be quite helpful with weight loss. I began to lose weight                                      slowly. By the age of 21 I was down to 120 pounds.

Because of my athletic background, Karen suggested that I try and compete in a Figure Show. I decided to give it a shot and placed third at the 2001 Coast to Coast Figure Championships (my first show). I began competing and placing in local shows in Florida. I loved training so much; I decided to seek my personal training certification so that I could help others as Karen had helped me. In 2003 I decided to try a much larger show, Ms. Galaxy, it is open to women world wide. I had to revamp my workouts. I along with my co-worker Chris Johnson developed a training program to help me lean out for the show. I also had to tweak my eating habits. My diet was very clean. I ate 6 small meals per day every 2-3 hours. Within two months I had dropped weight and the day of the show I was weighing 113 pounds and was looking lean. I placed 10th out of the fifty women that competed, and was very pleased.

I am currently working as a personal trainer at Body Works Performance Training in Tampa, Florida. As a trainer, my primary goal is to instill motivation, focus, and discipline into the training programs of each client. These are the three components that I feel have made me successful as an athlete and as a working professional. I believe it is my responsibility to motivate the client to begin the process of adopting a healthy lifestyle by providing a workout and diet regimen, which is focused on the client’s individual goals.
